Maui
-- Climate |
| |
It's
hard for me to comprehend when I'm on the Mainland that in
Maui I'll be wearing shorts and a tee shirt or brief top almost
all the time. In the 'winter' season, some evenings are cool
and I have been glad of a sweater or very light jacket at
a luau. Some sort of sandal is the common footwear, but it
is island habit not to wear shoes indoors. You'll see the
sign "Mahalo (thanks) for removing your shoes" in
most every house, including our condo. This helps keep carpets
free of the sand and local red dirt and the toes learn very
quickly to enjoy their freedom. Locals coming to visit leave
their sandals on the doormat. There is a little shelf just
inside the doorway of our condo where we leave our shoes.
